What we keep, and what we don't

Last updated 31 October 2026

Auspex is built to need as little about you as possible. There are no accounts, no tracking scripts and no ads.

Location

  • If you allow it, your browser gives a position. It is rounded to about 10 km in your browser before anything is stored or sent.
  • The rounded location is kept in your browser's local storage so you do not have to set it again. You can change or clear it at any time.
  • The server receives the rounded location to work out your sky and passes. It is not logged or stored, except for pass alerts (below).
  • Your location is never sent to the language model.

Questions and answers

  • Each answer is stored with its question, the satellite, the time, and the pass shape (directions and heights in your sky) so its card and link work.
  • A pass shape together with its time gives a rough idea of the region it was seen from. Delete an answer if you do not want its link to exist.
  • Your question and a sheet of facts about the satellite go to the language model provider (OpenRouter and the model behind it) to write the answer.
  • You can delete an answer from the browser you asked from, or while signed in with the wallet you asked with.

Limits and abuse protection

To enforce question limits, the server keeps counters keyed to a one-way hash of your IP address, never the address itself. Counters expire within a day.

Wallets

If you sign in with Phantom, the server keeps your public wallet address in a signed cookie for up to 7 days and caches its token balance for a few minutes. Public addresses and balances are already public on the blockchain.

Pass alerts

If you turn on alerts, the server stores the push subscription your browser creates, your wallet address and your rounded location, so it can work out when to notify you. Turning alerts off deletes them.

Cookies and storage

One cookie for the wallet session, only if you sign in. Local storage holds your theme, rounded location and the delete keys for answers you asked.

Hosting

The site runs on a cloud host that may keep standard request logs for security and operations.
